As newly appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Korea I am very happy to be in this fascinating country and looking forward to interesting years ahead of me.
The ties between our two countries and people are strong and I want to contribute to strengthen the friendship between Norway and South Korea.
Broadly speaking, the main task for the Embassy is to further enhance and strengthen the longstanding relations between our two countries. We do that through cooperation at the governmental and political level, by promoting business, trade and economic relations and through cultural activities. Trade and economic cooperation is the cornerstone of our bilateral relations.
This year the Embassy will prioritize focusing especially on dialogue with the Norwegian business community and following the regional development in East Asia when it comes to security issues and economic integration. On cooperation with South Korea the most important areas will be on the Artic and within the area of research.
The achievements of South Korea during the last 50 years are nothing but remarkable. From the very beginning as an independent state, the bilateral relationship between our two countries has been close and constructive. Today Norway and South Korea share values and common interests on the international arena. Human rights and gender issues, climate policy and particular green growth and on the international development agenda our common emphasis on education.
