The contemporary arts & crafts exhibition "Constructions" will be exhibited at the Korean Craft Promotion Foundation in Insadong from January 27th to February 9th, 2010.
The traveling exhibition’s title ”Construction” refers to the way something is put together, and corresponds to both building three-dimensional forms and creating patterns in surfaces, or a fusion of these two. For example, weaving and knitting show a direct link between the construction of the piece and its surface pattern. Thus, the material for a piece creates both the object, and the ornamentation of the object.
A main point of this exhibition is that it moves away from the dominant trend in Norwegian decorative arts and crafts since the 1990’s, namely the conceptual approach, where focus is concentrated on the idea rather than the physical form. Pieces range from formal to conceptual in expression, whereas some have strong traditional roots, and still others are more experimental.
The 25 pieces chosen by curator Edith Lundebrekke demonstrate how form and idea is interwoven and how it is not possible to separate the technique used from the underlying idea or meaning behind it. The selected artists have all developed their own individual methods for creating constructions. This gives each piece a voice of its own.
이번 전시의 명칭은 “Construction” 입니다. 어떤 것을 구성한다는 의미의 개념을 기반으로 합니다. 재질을 연결하거나 조합하여3차원의 입체양식 또는 표면의 패턴을 만들 거나 혼합하는 방법으로 표현합니다. 하나의 소재를 가지고 여러 구성요소들을 결합시켜 다양한 작품으로 창조하고 또 아름다움을 표현하는 장식품으로 만들어내기도 합니다.
형식과 모양을 중요시한 노르웨이 전통 공예를 벗어나1990년 대 이후 작품에 대한 개념, 작품 제작 과정, 테크닉을 중요시한 현대 노르웨이 공예 전입니다. 이번 전시에는 노르웨이 전통 공예 예술에 뿌리를 둔 작품과 새로운 실험적인 시도를 한 작품들이 함께 소개되고 있습니다.
큐레이터 Edith Lundebrekke에 의해 엄선된 25 작품은 형식과 아이디어와 테크닉이 어떻게 서로 연결되는지를 보여줍니다. 각 작품은 작가 개인의 고유한 방법으로 작품을 표현하였으며 또한 작가의 개성적인 목소리가 각 작품마다 실려있습니다.
