14 May His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon and Minister of Trade and Industry Trond Giske attended Norway Day at the Yeosu World Expo.
During the Expo over 100 participating nations will host their own national day. On 14 May Norway Day was hosted as the second of the national days, following the opening of the Expo 12 May.
“The bond between our countries has grown stronger in pace with the Republic of Korea’s astonishing development in recent decades." His Royal Highness proclaimed in the opening speech.
His Royal Highness also focused on the Expo itself, as well as South Korea and Norway’s shared experience and responsibilities as nations with a rich coastal areas: ”We manage our energy and natural resources in a sustainable, efficient and environmental friendly manner. The use of these resources is to benefit our entire population. Coastal states share a responsibility to manage their marine resources in a sustainable manner and to contribute to feed the worlds’ growing population.”
He proceeded to declare the focus of the Expo a very fitting one for Norway: ”The theme of this year’s Expo, The Living Ocean and Coast – Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities, is highly relevant for Norway in terms of geography, political focus and industry.“
The Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry Trond Giske also attended the session. After the official launch of Norway Day they both got to extensive tours of Expo-area, and amongst others visited the South Korean pavilion.
