The distinguished theatre company Jo Strømgren Kompani came to Korea for the first time ever earlier this year. They will visit again this November, to participate in the 9th Seoul Performing Arts Festival (SPAF).
During the theatre company’s first visit in May, they performed ‘The Convent’ for the audience of Uijeongbu Music Theatre Festival 2009. This time they will present another piece – ‘A Dance Tribute to the Art of Football’ during the Seoul Performance Arts Festival. This dance performance will be set up both on the 20. and 21. of November.
The show was first introduced to audiences in 1997, was the first of its kind in that it portrayed football through dance, and has received great reviews and prizes to boot. Due to popular demand, it is now on tour again. The following introduction is from Jo Strømgren Kompani’s official webpages:
The performance delves into the physical routine of the greatest game on earth and elevates the aesthetic aspects of its insanity. It comments the artificial conflict between the “common sports” and the “eloquent arts” as well as the pride and prejudice surrounding the concept of working-class football and upper-class ballet.
More information on ‘A Dance Tribute to the Art of Football’, information on the theatre company itself, and its other productions can be found here. For tickets, please visit the SPAF website here.
