Norwegian artist Jan Christensen will open his new installation in Seoul on May 6th, and invites audience to join his two workshops at Artsonje Center.
Sometimes called an exhibition, sometimes an audio installation or a session, and sometimes just referred to as a band: it is not easy to categorize this newest work of Jan Christensen and Anders Fjøsne. It started out as a curiosity of the Tibetan singing bowl, and ended up with a vary of sound mixing and distorting devices assembled with everyday objects – like old cookie jars. It all creats an environment where the audience come together and combine sounds produced by a variety of objects and sources into ‘found’ compositions that explore sonority, musicality, participation and collaboration.
The installation can be visited at Artsonje Center until the end of June, as a part of The Artsonje Lounge Project. The Lounge Project is an informal space where a café, bookshop/reading area and lounge coexist, and every year an artist or artist group is invited to intervene in this space.
For the 2011 Artsonje Lounge Project Nayoungim and Gregory Maass present Powr Mastrs. Their project re-configures a large-scale sculpture, produced in Norway, into the Artsonje Lounge. The original, Jaded Zombies from the Stratosphere, adopted a visual language incorporating Pop and Suprematist elements to translate the Norwegian landscape (its steep mountains, jagged coastlines and deep fjords) into multiple surfaces hanging from the ceiling.
To complement and activate this program the Artonje Lounge invited Jan Christensen and Anders Fjøsne to present The Seoul Sessions 2011. Jan Christensen will be present to install the work and will conduct two workshops on Children’s Day (May 5) for children aged 8-13 and their families. On May 6th, Jan Christensen will open the installation with a sound workshop that will count on the collaboration of Korean sound artists.
