The honour was given during the annual UNC Spring Reception at the military base in Yongsan, Seoul. Seven other outgoing liaison officers from various participating nations were honoured during the event.
The scroll of appreciation was handed out by Lieutenant General John D. Johnson, who in his speech emphasised the importance of having sending states participating in the United Nations Command. He was also happy to note a record in the participation of sending states during annual military exercises.
“Participating in the UNC is important to Norway”, says Norwegian Ambassador Torbjørn Holthe. “Norway took part in the Korean War and our present involvement in the United Nations Command shows our steadfast commitment to contribute to securing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula”.
Mr Øystein Bell will remain in Seoul until mid-July, when his mission at the Embassy is completed. This autumn he will take up a position as First Secretary at the Norwegian Embassy in Ottawa, Canada.
